or
How to Shift a Feeling


There may be times in the day when you have an undesirable feeling of some kind.  Wouldn't it be nice to know how to change that feeling into something more useful or pleasant?

This is, of course a generic form of the process I call "Replacement", and you  adjust it with your particular experiences.  It was developed at first for a door to door salesman who felt nervous, sick and shaky each time he had to approach a new business.  He used this strategy to shift from that undesirable state, to feeling confidant that he would be well received by his new customers.

The technique is short and sweet, and you will be amazed at how quickly it can make a difference in how you relate to your world.

Let's begin:

How To Shift A Feeling


1. Take a moment to sit quietly and scan your body to see what you are feeling. You don't have to give the feelings a name. Just become aware of any tension, anxiety, a heaviness in your heart, or other discomfort that may be present in your jaw, abdomen, chest, arms, legs, or other body parts. 

2. Stay with the feeling for a few moments without trying to stop or release it. Do not resist the feeling, just become familiar with it. Then take four to ten deep breaths. Allow yourself to become calmer with each exhale. 

3. Now think about something (anything) in your life for which you are grateful. Repeat to yourself a few times, "I feel gratitude for ______________."  Scan your body again and recognize where you feel the gratitude.  If you like, you can think of a string of things that you are grateful for.  Keep breathing deeply and focusing on the sense of gratitude, and where in your body you most feel that sensation.

Stay with that feeling for a few minutes, repeating to yourself, "I am grateful."

If your feel yourself moving back towards longing or discomfort say, "I release my need for this feeling," then focus again on gratitude. 


4. As you go through the day, pay attention to your thoughts and feelings. If you find yourself experiencing any discomfort, take a few deep breaths and imagine something that stimulates positive feelings for you. Make all decisions and take all actions when you are in a positive feeling state. 

You may want to repeat any of the following statements to yourself as you move through the day's experiences.  For affirmations that may apply to other situations, go to  Affirmations.

  * I release my need for discomfort of any kind.
  * I give myself permission to fully enjoy this experience.
  * I give myself permission to help others while helping myself financially.
  * I am willing to take actions that benefit everyone financially.
  * My skills and knowledge will be appreciated and accepted with love.
  * I am appreciated and accepted with love.
